Three serviced apartments in one house on the Guzape hills. Water that runs, power that does not go, and a number that someone actually picks up.

My sister came to Abuja for a two week contract and booked somewhere that looked fine in the pictures. No water on the second day. The generator ran until nine and then everyone sat in the dark. Nobody answered the phone.
So we bought the house on Yakubu Gowon Crescent and did it the other way round. We fixed the boring things first: an inverter that carries a whole flat for eight hours, a borehole with its own treatment, two internet lines from different providers because one will always be down.
Then we made it somewhere you would actually want to sit in the evening.
There is a generator behind the inverter for the days the grid and the batteries both give up. It has never run past midnight.
If it does run past midnight, we take that night off your bill. You will not have to ask.
The house sits on the low side of the Guzape hills, off the main road, so you get the view without the traffic noise. Nine minutes to Asokoro, about twenty to the Central Business District outside rush hour, and roughly forty to the airport if you leave before seven.
There is a small market at the bottom of the road, open every day except Sunday morning. The nearest pharmacy is four minutes on foot.
We leave a card in the kitchen with the plumber, the electrician and the dispatch rider we actually use, rather than a folder of laminated instructions nobody reads.
Parking for two cars per apartment, inside the gate.
Pick your dates and the total works itself out. No deposit is taken online. We call to confirm the flat is actually free before anything is charged.
